What is this?

from student hypertext project entitled

Welcome! This blog is utilized by students enrolled in the studio art courses of Prof. Krista Hoefle, in the Department of Art at Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN). We use the blog-structure in a myriad of ways: as a research tool; for discussion, critique, analytical, and creative writing related to course content; as a repository for media (video, audio, etc.) and for creative art projects. Check back often for updates!

About the blog administrator–

In real life, I’m located in 239 Moreau Building,or you can find me at the Moreau Art Galleries, or in the Sculpture Studio, or in the Computer Lab , or in the Huisking Video Lab, or having a cup of coffee in the cyber cafe…I’m on sabbatical during the Fall 2007…if you need to contact me, feel free to email me!

As an artist, I work in a variety of media including video, animation, sculpture/installation, generative programming, physical computing, and other digital technologies, focusing on a variety of themes related to the body–as a biological entity and a cultural idea. I’m interested in anything that encourages the consumption, taking apart, reassembly, and distribution of the body (to the viewer) in parts. My work undermines our notions of a fixed, homogenous body/persona relationship and begs the question….will your look last as long as you? you can see more of my work at my site: www.kristahoefle.com

In addition to running the Moreau Art Galleries, I teach courses in the Foundations and Sculpture Areas in the Department of Art, specifically: 2D Design, 3D Design, Reductive/Constructive, Beyond Object, and Installation-Video-and the Web (a tandem course with Professor Julie Tourtillotte). During Spring 2007, I taught a crosslisted Special Topics course in Women’s Studies and Art entitled Cyberfeminism_Creativity_Connectivity. This summer I’ll be teaching on the European Study Abroad program…the course is titled “Alternative Mapmaking and Psychogeography,” and we’ll be exploring emerging technologies and artistic practices in our reinterpretation of mapping unfamiliar, urban terrains.

I’ve also offered independant studies in special effects prosthetics techniques, advanced Actionscript Programming (for interactive Flash pieces, as well as generative components used towards print, web, and animation applications), advanced Video techniques and topics, and Installation exploration/strategies.

I offer a graphic design-based internship through the Moreau Art Galleries in which students can design print pieces for the exhibitions and visiting artist program (creating postcards, posters, etc.). I’m also a faculty/founding member of gvolt, and the current faculty advisor for the Anime Club.

Second Life avatar Thursday Broek (the avatar of real-life student Therese T., enrolled in my Cyberfeminism_Creativity_Connectivity course) and on right in the party hat is my avatar Attia Antonioni. Visit the Cyberfeminism website to get more information on our use of Second Life. (note….Attia no longer exists in Second Life…she “died” due to technical difficulties. If you are looking for me there, my new avatar is DeeDee Repine or Nini Worbridge, Attia’s cousin and sister. They are also part-troll, part-dragon, and have beautiful dragon feet)
