Growing up, I loved to draw my own cartoons. Most of them involved characters that I had based off of people that I had met in real life, or at least people in stories I had read or movies I had seen. But while reading the final section in the chapter of Identity, a question came into my head. What is it about human identity that makes artists want to recreate them? Are they simply not happy with the identity they have that they need to create a new one in their art? Or do they want to imagine what life would be like with this other identity?

Nancy Burson’s Evolution II was created with computers, using photographs then combining them into one picture. She was one of the earliest artists to use this form of media, but she was not the first to create a piece depicting another identity.
